We don’t do this often, but when we find something that hits the same nerve as what we build, we pay attention. Today we're dropping a very limited run of pocket pens milled in the UK. Solid brass. Compact. Overbuilt in a quiet way. The kind of object that doesn’t try hard and still ends up being the best thing in your pocket. It got an approving nod and immediate order from our founder Chris Tag, who knows a thing or two about over-building bada$$ery.

We didn’t stumble onto these. A longtime friend of DEFY put us onto them, the kind of guy where you’re not entirely sure what he actually does, but you know he’s been everywhere, carries everything, and doesn’t miss. Let’s just say this feels like something Jason Bourne would carry.

We got one in hand and immediately understood it. There’s a weight to it that stops you. Not heavy for the sake of it, just…substantial. The kind of feel that makes you keep turning it over without realizing it. Solid brass that takes on character the more you use it, paired with a Japanese-made tip that actually makes you want to write something down. Inside, it uses a refillable reservoir that drinks ink through capillary action, built to be used again and again, not tossed in a drawer. Small enough to disappear in your pocket, but grounded enough to matter when it’s in your hand.

Carries a kind of gravitas most things don’t. Earns its place every single day.

The Wren wears in, not out. Marks, patina, and use become part of it, not something to avoid. The Japanese-made tip is smooth, precise, and consistent. It doesn’t fight you. It makes you want to write more than you planned to.

DEFY is proudly bundling each Wren with a bottle of Tom’s Studio Deep Black ink, made in the UK and built to match. Rich, dark, and long-lasting, engineered to flow clean and consistent. Fill it, use it, refill it, and keep going.

We’re only bringing in a small batch. When they’re gone, that’s it.

What ink can I use?
DEFY is proudly bundling each Wren with a bottle of Tom’s Studio Deep Black Fountain Pen Ink, made in the UK and built to match the pen’s intent. (This is an $18.95 value) This isn’t just “black” ink, it’s deep, layered, and long-lasting, engineered to flow clean and consistent whether you’re jotting notes or sketching something that matters. The Wren was designed to be used, not replaced, and this ink keeps it going, refill after refill, with a richness that makes every line feel deliberate.

How do I store the reservoir and tips?
You can store reservoirs and tips, and change to a different colour using spare reservoirs and my reservoir storage containers.

How long will the tips/ink last?
You can expect the high-quality, Japanese-made tip to last for months of use. We tested a single ink fill in the Wren on a plotter – a device used for precision drawing – and it wrote consistently for 344 metres. That's the equivalent of 50 A4 pages of handwriting!

When the tip eventually dulls, you can find packs of three replacement tips here.

Anything else I should know?
Over time the brass will naturally develop its own unique patina. Some love the character this adds, while others prefer to keep their pen polished. Brass requires some extra upkeep to keep it nice and shiny! Please see video on how to do this here.

  • Due to the nature of this product, we cannot accept returns once the packaging has been opened, the ink bottle has been unsealed, or the pen has been filled. Any opened or used items are considered final sale.

Returns are only accepted on unused, unopened items. Pens that have been inked or used are not eligible for return unless they are faulty.
